Questions you may be asked from your candidates about pay packages for Travel Contracts.
Q: How am I paid if I am receiving a tax free stipend?
A: Plain and simple be sure your candidate works the applicable contracted hours each week to ensure full payment of weekly stipend. For example if contract assignment is 36 hours/week and candidate only works 24 hours/week. They will be paid for 24 hours worth of stipends. Stipend is $996/week based on 36 hours/wk - that = $ 27.67/hr tax free. so if they worked 24 hours /week = $664.08 in weekly tax free stipend.
Q: My contract states guaranteed hours and they called me off for low census?
A: In the case of guaranteed hours, be sure the Healthcare Professional notes facility low census, on what day, and how many hours they were called off for, on their timesheet. They will be paid a full stipend. As long as they did NOT volunteer to go home, always let the facility be the one to send home candidate.
Q: Do I (nurse) qualify for Travel Reimbursement?
Yes for a 13 week assignment we offer up to $600 reimbursement. Mileage is based from Permanent Address to the Facility Address at 53.5 cents per mile. up to $300 each way. As long as candidate works and turns in timesheet mileage is paid on second check and last check.
Q: What if I am contract for 36 hours/week and I work 45 hours in my work week?
A: The stipend is NEVER over prorated, that weekly amount is the max they will get based on 36 hours/week in this example. We may be able to negotiate a higher OT rate for them if these scenarios occur. They are benefiting from taking tax free income so they can't have their cake and eat it to, we also have to make sure we do not go over GSA guidelines GSA Per Diem Rates for the weekly stipend amounts. They would be paid OT after 40 hours/week in most cases. Each contract will be different at every facility, fyi.
PAY PACKAGE EXAMPLE:
- $22/hr taxed
- $1250/week tax free stipend based on 36 hours/week for 13 weeks
- Up to $600 Travel Reimbursement - Mileage is based from Permanent Address to the Facility Address and is based on current national average of 53.5 cents per mile. Up to $300 each way. Mileage is paid on second check and last check.
Pay Quote to candidate:
Gross pay for 36 hours/week = $2,042 ($22/hr x 36 hrs = $729 + $1250 stipend = $2042)
Some candidates like the Hourly breakdown:
Total Hourly Rate Package: $58/hr; $22/hr taxed, $36/hr in tax free stipends and travel reimbursement. (To get the calculation for tax free money travel and reimbursement take $1250/36 hours, then take $600 travel and divide by 468 hours)
CALIFORNIA AND ALASKA PAY PACKAGES FOR 10 and 12 hour shifts!
CA and AK - Daily OT Rules Apply!
Ok so in a nutshell, with these 2 states you have to forget the whole OT paid after 40 hours in a work week - out of your mind.
CA and AK offer OT, and DT (double time) based on the 24 hour period. So with that said anytime you see a shift that is not a typical 8 hour shift you want to know that hourly rate, that says blended rate/hour shows the average or blended rate that they get when they work the 12 hour shift.
In a 24 hour period OT is paid as follows in CA and AK:
First 8 hours of shift paid at base hourly rate
Next 4 hours of shift paid at OT hourly rate (time and half the base rate)
Any hours worked after 12 in 24 hr period - DT (Double Time = double the base rate)
The blended rate is the average rate which include their 8 hours of base pay plus 4 hours of OT
No, at this time, the jobs will not be broken down for them so if they have more questions get them submitted to CURE and get them on your dashboard!
in this case we will give the actual breakdown, most travelers to want to know what they earn per shift per hour so that is why we post that way!
